Tea Party Favors

Party favors have always been one of my favorite things to prepare for events. Even when I was a little girl helping my mom plan my birthday celebrations, I always enjoyed the job of putting together little goody bags for each of my friends. I feel like it is important to come up with something special for your guests to take away with them so they can remember what a fun experience they had!

It is especially fun for me to come up with tea party gift ideas! There are so many options that don't have to be too involved or expensive. Sometimes I'll just leave a simple card with an inspirational quote or bible verse at each place mat for guests to take with them. Typically I'll use ones that have a tea party print or background to go along with the theme, but you don't have to be that specific. This is something that your friends can keep in their wallets or put on the refrigerator door to be seen often.

However, I mostly prefer to give favors that are a bit more practical and that can be used again and again. One I usually go with are prepackaged tea accessories such as these adorable tea bag dishes/holders. Plus, you know that every time your guests use them at home, they'll be reminded of your wonderful tea party, and that is exactly the purpose of party favors in the first place!

Other times, I like to be even more creative and put together homemade presents instead. For my birthday one year recently, some friends and I went to a Walt Disney World restaurant called 1900 Park Fare for the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast where characters from Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, and Mary Poppins greet you at your table. I decided I wanted the favors to correspond with these Disney stories. Quickly I was struck with a clever idea! Now, I always associate Alice in Wonderland with tea because of the Mad Tea Party scene. Winnie the Pooh loves honey... and honey goes great with tea! Mary Poppins sings "a spoonful of sugar..." sugar goes with tea too! So it seemed like a no-brainer to make the favors a tea theme - even though this wasn't technically for a tea party! I could give packages of tea bags, honey, and sugar but how could I make this into more of a fun gift? Below is what I ended up doing!

Tea bags with paper tea cup decorations - Alice in Wonderland theme:

I cut two pieces of white construction paper into the shapes of tea cups and glued the edges together (except for the brim at the top) leaving enough space in the middle to slip a tea bag inside. Next, I glued the end of a string to the inside of the tea cups. At the other end of the string, I tied a small white tag (which was really just another piece of white construction paper that I had cut out and punched a whole through.) On this tag I pasted a square piece of blue construction paper where I wrote the words "Drink Me". This is reference to the movie! On the actual tea cup I also pasted a piece of blue construction paper and then layered that with a decorative blue and white print paper on top. These colors were ideal because they go with the dress Alice wears! I created this six times over making one for each of the guests who came to the breakfast. I bought a variety pack of tea bags and put one in each of the paper cups after the glue dried.

Honey jars - Winnie the Pooh theme:
I peeled the label off of six empty and clean baby food jars, placed a Winnie the Pooh decal sticker on the side of each jar, and filled them with honey. Next I cut flower printed fabric into six pieces and hot glued one to each of the jars' lids leaving a little fabric hanging over. After it dried, I wrapped pink ribbons around all of the lids and tied them into bows.

Spoonfuls of sugar - Mary Poppins theme:

I found six vintage tea spoons at a local antique shop. On each one I placed two sugar cubes, then wrapped the spoons with sparkly white toile. To secure the fabric, I tied a red ribbon around the stem of the spoons. The red and white colors were inspired by Mary Poppins' Jolly Holiday outfit in the movie. Along with each ribbon was a piece of decorative paper with a whole punched through so they could be attached that had the words "A spoonful of sugar..." written on them.

I put one of each of these favors into small gift boxes with colorful tissue paper. Here is what each gift box looked like:

Spooky Tea Party

My latest tea party was frightfully delightful! I asked my friends if there was a theme they would like for my next tea party and they chose 'spooky'. Since it was still summer at the time, I was careful to not include specifically Halloween/fall time details such as pumpkins. Another one of my goals was to make this event feel eerie and dark, while still maintaining a tea party-esque atmosphere, adding touches of elegance amongst the gore! I set the table with these cut-out sugar cookies that are made to look like decapitated people. (Yikes, maybe I should have put a trigger warning at the top of this post?) I used a Christmas gingerbread man cookie cutter, sliced off the heads before baking, and then added some red icing after they cooled to look like blood. For the second dessert idea, I made red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with dyed pink buttercream frosting to look like brains! My favorite of all the food I served were the "finger sandwiches"! (Get it? S...

Sips by

I was so excited last Christmas when my aunt surprised me with a year long subscription to Sips by ! It's an amazing company that puts together boxes of teas to send directly to your home, personalized with your taste in mind. Since I had such a great experience, I thought I'd share some of the information in case anyone is looking for clever gift ideas for the tea lovers in their lives! When I started it at the end of last year, I was prompted to fill out a little questionnaire on their website so that they could get a sense of the types of teas I like and dislike. They used that information to help determine what to include in my boxes. I was pretty open minded when answering the questions, so I ended up with a wide variety of options. That is exactly what I wanted because it gave me the chance to try teas that I might not have normally purchased myself! Below is a glimpse of what the boxes and their contents look like: Each box came with 4 different kinds of teas to enjoy an...

Murder Mystery Tea Party

I have always wanted to do a murder mystery themed tea party because I thought it might be interesting to combine elegance with just a touch of horror! So this week I finally went ahead and organized one! Special thank you to my mom and dad for helping me with the story line and other details! And thank you also to my grandma, sisters, and the D'Angelo family for attending and participating! For this event I kept the menu relatively basic by preparing simple finger sandwiches (egg salad as well as cucumber) and a fruit tart. To add to the theme, I iced some sugar cookies with black question marks. My mom used the same black icing to draw the outline of a body on top of the cake, but added some colorful flowers to balance out the gruesomeness. ;) The setting was a high school reunion! In attendance was a tough-girl bully, perky ex-cheerleader, glitzy celebrity, exhausted mother, successful business woman, cafeteria lunch lady, and drunken teacher. Each of these party ...
