"Disney Bounding"

Tea parties are clearly something that I absolutely love, but I think it's about time I share with you one of my other passions... and that is Disney! Any time I get the opportunity to mesh my two favorite things together, I do! One idea is hosting a tea party where everyone is encouraged to dress in an outfit that somewhat resembles a Disney character. This is called "Disney Bounding" and is a really popular trend right now with people who go to Disney parks a lot like me. Below are some pictures of three different tea parties I went to where this was the theme. Each time, we were at the Garden View Tea Room which is inside Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. But you don't have to be at Disney to do this! You can make your own Disney inspired tea party at home! It is so fun trying to guess what character each of your friends chose to represent by the details of their ensemble!

As you can see, we all tried to give our Disney Bounds a bit of a sophisticated look so that they would be appropriate for a fancy tea room.  But you can do more casual outfits too for your own events if you wish! Below are some of my favorites that I've done for various occasions, not just tea parties!

When I Disney Bound, I try not to buy anything new for my outfits because I think that part of the fun is being creative with what you already have! I remember the first time I was going to try it I didn't think I had anything that could work! Little by little, I found pieces in my closet that made me think of different characters for one reason or another. Eventually, I came up with all of the looks you see here plus a few more that I haven't gotten to wear yet! Now in a few of the outfits above, I may have gotten a little carried away with some of the props and accessories that I used (i.e. the card board cut-out of Elvis' face, the witch broom, and the plush toys) which ended up making the over all looks seem a bit over the top and more 'costume-y' than Disney Bounds are typically supposed to be. But for the most part, I try to make the outfits into something that I would actually wear even if I wasn't trying to loosely portray a character.

I am so grateful to whoever came up with the idea of Disney Bounding! It has provided hours of fun for me! Once you start doing it you can't stop! In fact I can't go shopping anymore without thinking "Who could I Disney Bound as with this?" before buying a piece of clothing! Trust me, it really is addicting. But one of the main reasons I love it so much, as I said before, is that it is the perfect way to combine two of the things I love so much... tea parties and Disney! If you are a Disney fan as well, definitely consider making this the theme for your next tea party!

Not really into Disney? Wait, is that even possible? (haha!) No, but seriously, you could totally take this idea and use it for non-Disney characters too! Perhaps you're a big fan of The Wizard of Oz? You could assign a different character from the film to each of your guests and see what they come up with! Provided is a version I've done of Glinda. (Again, I went a little over board with the crown and wand, but with just the dress it is definitely be an acceptable and subtle {non-}Disney Bound) Or maybe an Audrey Hepburn tea party would be more your style? Have your guests put together an ensemble they think she would've worn, or put on something similar to an outfit she's donned in one of her movies! Check out the time I pretended I was a character of her's, Holly Golightly.

Spooky Tea Party

My latest tea party was frightfully delightful! I asked my friends if there was a theme they would like for my next tea party and they chose 'spooky'. Since it was still summer at the time, I was careful to not include specifically Halloween/fall time details such as pumpkins. Another one of my goals was to make this event feel eerie and dark, while still maintaining a tea party-esque atmosphere, adding touches of elegance amongst the gore! I set the table with these cut-out sugar cookies that are made to look like decapitated people. (Yikes, maybe I should have put a trigger warning at the top of this post?) I used a Christmas gingerbread man cookie cutter, sliced off the heads before baking, and then added some red icing after they cooled to look like blood. For the second dessert idea, I made red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with dyed pink buttercream frosting to look like brains! My favorite of all the food I served were the "finger sandwiches"! (Get it? S...

Sips by

I was so excited last Christmas when my aunt surprised me with a year long subscription to Sips by ! It's an amazing company that puts together boxes of teas to send directly to your home, personalized with your taste in mind. Since I had such a great experience, I thought I'd share some of the information in case anyone is looking for clever gift ideas for the tea lovers in their lives! When I started it at the end of last year, I was prompted to fill out a little questionnaire on their website so that they could get a sense of the types of teas I like and dislike. They used that information to help determine what to include in my boxes. I was pretty open minded when answering the questions, so I ended up with a wide variety of options. That is exactly what I wanted because it gave me the chance to try teas that I might not have normally purchased myself! Below is a glimpse of what the boxes and their contents look like: Each box came with 4 different kinds of teas to enjoy an...

Murder Mystery Tea Party

I have always wanted to do a murder mystery themed tea party because I thought it might be interesting to combine elegance with just a touch of horror! So this week I finally went ahead and organized one! Special thank you to my mom and dad for helping me with the story line and other details! And thank you also to my grandma, sisters, and the D'Angelo family for attending and participating! For this event I kept the menu relatively basic by preparing simple finger sandwiches (egg salad as well as cucumber) and a fruit tart. To add to the theme, I iced some sugar cookies with black question marks. My mom used the same black icing to draw the outline of a body on top of the cake, but added some colorful flowers to balance out the gruesomeness. ;) The setting was a high school reunion! In attendance was a tough-girl bully, perky ex-cheerleader, glitzy celebrity, exhausted mother, successful business woman, cafeteria lunch lady, and drunken teacher. Each of these party ...
