DDSC’s Galentine’s Day Tea Party

I know I’m still a little behind on the times... last week I talked about Christmas, and now I’m posting about Valentine’s Day, but I really wanted to share about a special tea party I hosted a few weeks ago!

Let me begin by explaining that my friend Megan and I came up with a social club called Disney Darlings a while back. Basically, we host monthly themed events (usually in Disney) where everyone is invited! We did this for a few reasons, one being that we know it can be difficult trying to fit in when you relocate to a new place and we've noticed that central Florida is definitely a place where a lot of people move (even if it’s just temporary). So we thought this would be a great way to help people feel included and meet new friends! Another reason is because we love coming up with creative ideas for events, and when you live near WDW, there’s no shortage of options! Click here to view our Disney Darlings Social Club (DDSC) Facebook page for more information and to follow along so you don’t miss any of our future scheduled meet-ups! Here are some photos of a few of our past themed get-togethers!

For our February event this year we decided to organize a Galentine’s Day tea party! We made an afternoon tea reservation for our group at the Garden View Tea Room in Disney's Grand Floridian Resort on the Sunday before Valentine’s Day! I know I've posted about being at this location before, and I truly could talk about it all the time because there's just something so special about this resort in general that makes you feel so fancy by simply stepping inside! The décor is absolutely so gorgeous and elegant! It really is the perfect place to have a tea party!

It was so much fun seeing some DDSC veterans as well as a few new faces and everyone looked so beautiful in their festive outfits! We even went exploring around the building, inside and outside, for a photoshoot after the tea party! We definitely took advantage of everyone being all dressed up and got lots of great shots!

We told all guests in advance to bring Valentine cards or treats (etc..) to exchange with one another and I must say that everyone really went all out!

Below are examples of the wonderful variety of thoughtful gifts we received from each other!

Sara brought a delicious cake from the bakery she works at for everyone to try!

Lots of guests put together adorable goody bags (these in the picture are the ones I made)!

Mariana gave each friend a mini canvas with a hand painted Disney character or scene!

Tanya made us all special scrubs!

Gloriana made each person a pair of earrings!

Taylor brought homemade sugar cookies to share!

This event was honestly a combination of all of my favorite things - friends, tea parties, dress-up, Disney, pictures, and even presents! Thank you so much to everyone who made this such a special day!

Spooky Tea Party

My latest tea party was frightfully delightful! I asked my friends if there was a theme they would like for my next tea party and they chose 'spooky'. Since it was still summer at the time, I was careful to not include specifically Halloween/fall time details such as pumpkins. Another one of my goals was to make this event feel eerie and dark, while still maintaining a tea party-esque atmosphere, adding touches of elegance amongst the gore! I set the table with these cut-out sugar cookies that are made to look like decapitated people. (Yikes, maybe I should have put a trigger warning at the top of this post?) I used a Christmas gingerbread man cookie cutter, sliced off the heads before baking, and then added some red icing after they cooled to look like blood. For the second dessert idea, I made red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with dyed pink buttercream frosting to look like brains! My favorite of all the food I served were the "finger sandwiches"! (Get it? S...

Sips by

I was so excited last Christmas when my aunt surprised me with a year long subscription to Sips by ! It's an amazing company that puts together boxes of teas to send directly to your home, personalized with your taste in mind. Since I had such a great experience, I thought I'd share some of the information in case anyone is looking for clever gift ideas for the tea lovers in their lives! When I started it at the end of last year, I was prompted to fill out a little questionnaire on their website so that they could get a sense of the types of teas I like and dislike. They used that information to help determine what to include in my boxes. I was pretty open minded when answering the questions, so I ended up with a wide variety of options. That is exactly what I wanted because it gave me the chance to try teas that I might not have normally purchased myself! Below is a glimpse of what the boxes and their contents look like: Each box came with 4 different kinds of teas to enjoy an...

Murder Mystery Tea Party

I have always wanted to do a murder mystery themed tea party because I thought it might be interesting to combine elegance with just a touch of horror! So this week I finally went ahead and organized one! Special thank you to my mom and dad for helping me with the story line and other details! And thank you also to my grandma, sisters, and the D'Angelo family for attending and participating! For this event I kept the menu relatively basic by preparing simple finger sandwiches (egg salad as well as cucumber) and a fruit tart. To add to the theme, I iced some sugar cookies with black question marks. My mom used the same black icing to draw the outline of a body on top of the cake, but added some colorful flowers to balance out the gruesomeness. ;) The setting was a high school reunion! In attendance was a tough-girl bully, perky ex-cheerleader, glitzy celebrity, exhausted mother, successful business woman, cafeteria lunch lady, and drunken teacher. Each of these party ...
