Antique Shopping

I've always loved browsing through antique shops, looking for treasures for my tea parties! It can be easy to get distracted in these kinds of stores, so I like to have a few specific things in mind while I'm there to help me stay focused.

The first thing I make sure to see if they have is obvious tea party essentials like tea cups. Occasionally I'll come across complete tea sets, but it's more common to find a lot of random pieces. You can use mismatched tea cups at a tea party without it clashing, in fact I think it adds an element of whimsy and makes each place setting unique! Another good reason for snagging individual tea cups could be for if you're going to play games at your tea party... they can be used as a prize! There are all sorts of craft ideas that turn tea cups into creative gifts such as candle holders or even potted plants (<---click the pink words to be directed to websites with instructions on how to do these fun crafts)!

Other items I like to keep an eye out for are dishes or trays that could be used for tea parties but that are different than what I already have in my collection. That's usually things that have vibrant colors or distinct prints because the majority of things I currently own are more simple. Antique shops are the perfect place to find unique pieces like that.

Decorations are another idea I have in mind while "antiquing". Table clothes, linen napkins, place mats, doilies, or other embellishments for on or around your table can almost always be found. Also, if you're going to be having a photo booth at your party like I suggested in a previous post of mine, consider looking for adornments that could enhance your display such as pennants or really anything that could help create an attractive backdrop!

Something else I look for are accessories you could wear to a tea party such as big hats, frilly gloves, or gaudy brooches. A lot of times there are cute aprons too which are nice to have for the prep and clean up portions of the tea party. Then of course you'll need a place like a trunk or a chest to store all of your dress-up accessories!

Earlier this week when my mom and I went to two of our favorite shops - Sister's Junktiques Vintage Market and Southern Comfort Antiques - we decided to film our adventures just for fun! I shared our "vlog" on my YouTube channel and it is currently the featured video on my website!

Spooky Tea Party

My latest tea party was frightfully delightful! I asked my friends if there was a theme they would like for my next tea party and they chose 'spooky'. Since it was still summer at the time, I was careful to not include specifically Halloween/fall time details such as pumpkins. Another one of my goals was to make this event feel eerie and dark, while still maintaining a tea party-esque atmosphere, adding touches of elegance amongst the gore! I set the table with these cut-out sugar cookies that are made to look like decapitated people. (Yikes, maybe I should have put a trigger warning at the top of this post?) I used a Christmas gingerbread man cookie cutter, sliced off the heads before baking, and then added some red icing after they cooled to look like blood. For the second dessert idea, I made red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with dyed pink buttercream frosting to look like brains! My favorite of all the food I served were the "finger sandwiches"! (Get it? S...

Sips by

I was so excited last Christmas when my aunt surprised me with a year long subscription to Sips by ! It's an amazing company that puts together boxes of teas to send directly to your home, personalized with your taste in mind. Since I had such a great experience, I thought I'd share some of the information in case anyone is looking for clever gift ideas for the tea lovers in their lives! When I started it at the end of last year, I was prompted to fill out a little questionnaire on their website so that they could get a sense of the types of teas I like and dislike. They used that information to help determine what to include in my boxes. I was pretty open minded when answering the questions, so I ended up with a wide variety of options. That is exactly what I wanted because it gave me the chance to try teas that I might not have normally purchased myself! Below is a glimpse of what the boxes and their contents look like: Each box came with 4 different kinds of teas to enjoy an...

Murder Mystery Tea Party

I have always wanted to do a murder mystery themed tea party because I thought it might be interesting to combine elegance with just a touch of horror! So this week I finally went ahead and organized one! Special thank you to my mom and dad for helping me with the story line and other details! And thank you also to my grandma, sisters, and the D'Angelo family for attending and participating! For this event I kept the menu relatively basic by preparing simple finger sandwiches (egg salad as well as cucumber) and a fruit tart. To add to the theme, I iced some sugar cookies with black question marks. My mom used the same black icing to draw the outline of a body on top of the cake, but added some colorful flowers to balance out the gruesomeness. ;) The setting was a high school reunion! In attendance was a tough-girl bully, perky ex-cheerleader, glitzy celebrity, exhausted mother, successful business woman, cafeteria lunch lady, and drunken teacher. Each of these party ...
