Mother's Day Tea Party

Tea parties are a classic way of celebrating Mothers Day so of course I had to put one together for the mothers in my life this weekend! But I decided to mix things up a little by hosting it outside by the pool instead of in the dining room where I typically set things up.

To keep everyone cool I served homemade iced fruit tea!
To make this I combined Earl Grey loose tea leaves with cold water in a pitcher and put it in the refrigerator over night to steep and stay cool. In the morning I strained out the tea leaves and then poured the liquid back into the pitcher. Next I mixed in some frozen lemonade, frozen orange juice, and granulated sugar to the mixture. Then I added some slices of fresh lemons and oranges. Just as it was time to serve, I put in some ice cubes and garnished the drink with a few sprigs of mint. Definitely keeping this refreshing idea in mind for my summer tea parties too!

To eat we had chicken salad sandwiches. This is my favorite thing to have for lunch! All I do to make this is mix together some shredded baked chicken and mayonnaise. Then right before serving I fold in some dried cranberries, chopped celery, and almonds. Spoon onto croissants (or any kind of bread!) and enjoy! It was a perfect dish for our outdoor tea party!

It wouldn't be a tea party without some sweet treats! We had banana bread and brownies this time! Adding paper doilies to my plain glass plates makes them look a lot more decorative!

Below is a picture of the way I set each place setting. It makes me feel extra classy when drinking from these fancy kinds of glasses! (haha!) Check out how much color those paper napkins add to the table! Also, notice the tea strainers to the left above each plate. Even though I already strained the tea when preparing it, I put these at each place setting to use in case any tiny pieces might have gotten through the first time. Just place one over each glass before pouring!

Here is another interesting contraption... a little lemon juicer! You just place a lemon wedge inside and squeeze over your drink! I like to have this out for all of my tea parties, no matter what kind of tea I'm serving!

We all were having so much fun spending time together that we didn't want it to end! (That's what tea parties do, I'm telling you!)  So after cleaning up we broke out one of our favorite games to play together!

This outdoor Mother's Day tea party was definitely a success! Special 'thank you' to my wonderful mom, grandma, and sister for participating!

Spooky Tea Party

My latest tea party was frightfully delightful! I asked my friends if there was a theme they would like for my next tea party and they chose 'spooky'. Since it was still summer at the time, I was careful to not include specifically Halloween/fall time details such as pumpkins. Another one of my goals was to make this event feel eerie and dark, while still maintaining a tea party-esque atmosphere, adding touches of elegance amongst the gore! I set the table with these cut-out sugar cookies that are made to look like decapitated people. (Yikes, maybe I should have put a trigger warning at the top of this post?) I used a Christmas gingerbread man cookie cutter, sliced off the heads before baking, and then added some red icing after they cooled to look like blood. For the second dessert idea, I made red velvet cupcakes and decorated them with dyed pink buttercream frosting to look like brains! My favorite of all the food I served were the "finger sandwiches"! (Get it? S...

Sips by

I was so excited last Christmas when my aunt surprised me with a year long subscription to Sips by ! It's an amazing company that puts together boxes of teas to send directly to your home, personalized with your taste in mind. Since I had such a great experience, I thought I'd share some of the information in case anyone is looking for clever gift ideas for the tea lovers in their lives! When I started it at the end of last year, I was prompted to fill out a little questionnaire on their website so that they could get a sense of the types of teas I like and dislike. They used that information to help determine what to include in my boxes. I was pretty open minded when answering the questions, so I ended up with a wide variety of options. That is exactly what I wanted because it gave me the chance to try teas that I might not have normally purchased myself! Below is a glimpse of what the boxes and their contents look like: Each box came with 4 different kinds of teas to enjoy an...

Murder Mystery Tea Party

I have always wanted to do a murder mystery themed tea party because I thought it might be interesting to combine elegance with just a touch of horror! So this week I finally went ahead and organized one! Special thank you to my mom and dad for helping me with the story line and other details! And thank you also to my grandma, sisters, and the D'Angelo family for attending and participating! For this event I kept the menu relatively basic by preparing simple finger sandwiches (egg salad as well as cucumber) and a fruit tart. To add to the theme, I iced some sugar cookies with black question marks. My mom used the same black icing to draw the outline of a body on top of the cake, but added some colorful flowers to balance out the gruesomeness. ;) The setting was a high school reunion! In attendance was a tough-girl bully, perky ex-cheerleader, glitzy celebrity, exhausted mother, successful business woman, cafeteria lunch lady, and drunken teacher. Each of these party ...
